Eyewitnesses in Jerusalem are reporting encounters with an angel that, they say, looks like Elvis Presley and, in fact, might be the rock icon in his “heavenly form.”

In no fewer than 22 separate instances beginning a few minutes after midnight on Jan. 1, 2008, men, women and children – including at least three rabbis, six protestant ministers and an entire church group from Tuscon, Arizona – claim to have seen a shimmering winged “Elvis” hovering over streets or sidewalks in the holy city.

To date, there have been no reports of anyone having heard the angel speak (or sing), nor has anyone been able to make heads or tails of the implications of the angel’s visits.

One witness said in a television interview: “Maybe God wants us to ask, ‘What does this mean?’ That’s the one question everybody is asking but nobody is answering.

“It’s quite a phenomenon indeed.”
