Finger-sized sharks that look cute but prey on humans are poised to feast on tourists who dare wade into the surf along South Carolina and Florida beaches between now and early September.
According to marine biologists in Miami, “the miniature great whites appear to have been genetically engineered in an unauthorized experiment” and were “inadvertently released into the wild.”
“They school like minnows but have needle-sharp teeth and the strength to pick your bones clean,” one scientist told me exclusively.
“They attack and consume flesh with the voraciousness of piranha.
“We’re seeing them in increasing numbers especially at high tides and in rough surf.”
Jacki Parker Brown, of Charlotte, North Carolina, says she she found two finger sharks wedged under the straps of her bikini top after a quick dip in the ocean at Surfside Beach on South Carolina’s famous Grand Strand.
“They weren’t much bigger than my pinkie finger,” she said, nervously wiping tears from her eyes as she spoke. “Thank God they didn’t bite me. I’m still very unsure about going back into the water. Those things are scary.”
Great whites of any size are man eaters, warns the expert, noting that “young children and senior citizens who splash around in knee-to-waist-deep water will be prime targets.”
The scientist said “it is possible” terrorists had a hand in the development of the creatures, but added, “That wasn’t the focus of our study, and we can’t prove that. “
